Rosettes ~
Rosettes, along with end grafts & inlay, are one of the few places on an instrument where a luthier can make a profound visual statement of woodworking skill and artistry.
~ My standard rosettes are a one of a kind mosaic ring using around 10 different woods and or shell with BWB inner and outer purfling. These are matched to the woods used in the rest of the build and can be of a coherent, and even colour palate, emphasis on particular wood species / colour, or a fading dark to light theme. The choice is yours.
Some other options (all of which are shown below) are:
Spiral Mosaic (Fading light to dark shown).
All wood ring- (Spalted maple shown).
Single or Double line shell ring.
Segmented or broken rings in wood and or shell.
Herringbone, Rope and other traditional rosette styles.
Here is a small sampling of what I have done, all being commissioned by the customer to suit their tastes.
